Introducing SheRise: Closing the Digital Empowerment Gap for Women in India
Where every woman finds her strength.
At Delta Forum Society, we’ve spent years working directly with women in rural and underserved communities across India — teaching digital literacy, helping them use smartphones safely, and showing them how simple digital tools can support their livelihoods. Through this on-the-ground work, we kept running into the same problem: information doesn’t reach the people who need it most.
There are hundreds of government schemes, legal protections, and support programs designed for women in India. But if you can’t find them, don’t know they exist, or can’t understand how to access them online, they might as well not exist at all. This gap — between what’s available and what’s actually accessible — is what inspired us to build SheRise.
What is SheRise?
SheRise is a mobile-first digital platform designed to help women across India discover and access:
Government schemes and welfare programs
Legal aid and rights information
Skill-development and livelihood resources
All in local languages, built for low-bandwidth environments, and designed to be usable even by women who are new to smartphones.
Why We Built It This Way
Our fieldwork taught us that a platform is only as useful as it is usable. Three things matter most:
Simplicity — many women we work with are using a smartphone meaningfully for the first time. If a platform isn’t simple, it won’t get used.
Local language support — India has 22 official languages. A platform that only works in English or Hindi excludes millions of women.
Trust — technology adoption in these communities happens through relationships and community trust, not flashy design.
We built SheRise around these three principles, prioritizing accessibility over complexity every step of the way.
How It Works
A mobile-first web app that works well even on basic smartphones and slower internet connections
WhatsApp integration, so women who don’t regularly browse the web can still get updates and information through a platform they already use daily
Real-time translation support, starting with Hindi, English, and one regional language, with plans to expand
A growing, community-vetted database of over 100 mapped government schemes and legal resources

Why This Matters
Every woman who gains access to information she didn’t have before doesn’t just benefit herself — she brings that knowledge back to her family and community. That ripple effect is at the heart of everything Delta Forum Society does, and SheRise is the next step in scaling that impact through technology.
We’re just getting started, and we’re excited to bring SheRise to more women, more states, and more languages in the years ahead.
